Alton Social ladies two fours team have won the Bowls Hampshire Thornbury Trophy for the third time in the last fours years, Lee on Solent were Social’s semi final opponents, Margaret Holden’s rink of Lesley Johnson, Alice Atwell & Hazel Marke went into an early lead and were never challenged running out comfortable winners, Brenda Plumpton’s rink of Sue Murray, Marjorie Rowledge & Caroline Goodeve found the going a bit tougher with the game always close until the latter stages when Brenda’s rink pulled away to win.

In the final against old adversaries Atherley it was roles reversed as Brenda’s rink cruised to a 25 shot win and Margaret’s rink battling to a 3 shot win.

There was no joy in the Golden Girls county semi final for Doreen Atkins & Marjorie Rowledge as an early lead slipped away with worsening playing conditions.

In the Ladies Benevolent Triples county semi final Sue Murray, Brenda Plumpton & Margaret Holden started strongly leading 11 shots to 2 but were gradually pegged back to lose by 1 shot on the last end.

In the North Hants Ladies fours its was an all Social semi final with Doreen Atkins, Lesley Johnson, Marjorie Rowledge & Caroline Goodeve holding the early lead but Sue Murray, Flo Ward, Sheila Goodwin & Brenda Plumpton fought back strongly to take their place in the final.

Alton Social men finally secured the B&D fours league 1 title for the first time in their history, after back to back defeats Social completed their league program crushing St. Mary Bourne by 70 shots to 26.

The Whitchurch league had two 5 points to 0 victories to elevate them out of the relegation zone to mid table security.

The B&D triples league 1 team are just 1.5 points behind top team Kingsclere but having played a game more but a possible league decider to come.
